Berlin was another place I spent some time working. Another opportunity to hang out with the ever growing number of Bears in Berlin. Every time I go there seem to be more of them!

The bear has been the city symbol and mascot certainly since the middle ages. No one really knows why.

Now though the bear has assumed a decidedly more informal appearance.

Also a chance to go and see the Emperor Wilhelm Memorial Church. Built in the 1890s it was badly damaged and hollowed out in an allied bombing raid in 1943 and left as a stark testimony.

Restored internally it has extraordinary original murals featuring various members of the German nobility in some rather curious scenes.

Today it is a famous landmark and nicknamed by Berliners “der Hohle Zahn”, which translates as “The Hollow Tooth”

Right next to the old church is a building which from the outside looks, at least to these eyes, so drab and uninspiring that you wonder why anyone bothered to build it.

However go inside and it’s another World. This is the new church … beautiful!
