The essence of the Coach Approach is unlocking the talent, ability and passion people already have within them. It’s what people pay a coach to do, but you don’t have to be a coach to do it. Whether you’re a leader, a manager, a parent, or starting a career in coaching, these are skills anyone can learn and apply in almost any setting.

The learning journey

Module 1

The Essence and Structure of a Coach Approach

How to communicate in a transformative way · Four days with Pamela Richarde
+

Learn the essence of the Coach Approach so that you can begin to apply it immediately. After you leave Module 1, you will have enough knowledge to go and run a coaching session.

Some of the key areas of Module 1:

  • What coaching is, how it is unique and how it can be applied
  • The eight ICF Core Competencies of Coaching and the behavioural assessment markers that go with them
  • Setting up a coaching relationship, from induction to completion
  • Designing the coaching alliance
  • Developing self-as-coach
  • A Coach Approach to giving and receiving feedback
  • The role of intuition, and how not knowing all the answers (!) works for you
Module 2

Going Deeper: An Ontological Approach

How to coach more effectively with language, emotions and the body · Three days with Terrie Lupberger and Pamela Richarde
+

We human beings have emotions, and those emotions impact our results: we create a different result if we rage at people rather than talk with them. We have language, and how we use it is critical to our success. We also have bodies, and we actually communicate more with our bodies than with our words, yet we are largely unaware of the impact of our presence. An Ontological Approach gives you the tools and awareness you need to work with all three crucial dimensions: emotions, language and the body.

Some of the key areas of Module 2:

  • Identifying the key conversations that need to happen, and the art of having those conversations
  • How to align emotions, language and physiology for increased success and congruency
  • How to work with, and shift, the emotions your clients are trapped in that don't serve them
  • New emotional competencies for your own life, including two required for great coaching: gentle irreverence and the ability to hold paradox
  • How the body can be a powerful conduit for learning and change in the coaching process
  • Developing a greater, more grounded and expansive presence as a coach
  • How to listen for the hidden beliefs and assumptions keeping your clients from the results they want
  • Identifying some of your own unexamined beliefs keeping you from what you want
  • Developing a treasury of more evocative and provocative questions that get to your client's underlying issues
  • How to work with leaders to improve their conversational, emotional and somatic intelligences
  • An ontological approach as a comprehensive, innovative tool for organisational change
Accelerator

Developing the Human Side of Leadership

How to have powerful leadership conversations · Three 90-minute sessions with Terrie and Pamela
+

Three focused 90-minute webinars, each with additional eBooks and support materials.

  • The Language of Leadership: at the heart of leadership is the conversation. Learn the five critical conversations a leader needs to engage in, how to support leaders to actually initiate them, and how to use these tools to generate organisational change
  • The Emotionally Agile Coach: a critical role of a coach, and a leader, is creating the right emotional environment to get the job done. Learn the six emotions required for effective leadership, how to help leaders embody a broader emotional range at work, and how to work with your clients' emotions for greater impact
  • Coaching and the Body: the body is fundamental to learning and change. Learn how to help clients notice their conditioned tendencies and habits of reacting, replace habits with choices, and work with bodies in your coaching, even over a call
Module 3

Expanding Your Coach Impact and Toolkit

How to create profound change using values, NLP and neuroscience · Three days with Ian McDermott and Professor Patricia Riddell
+

This module is split into two parts. Part 1, Advanced Coaching Tools and Techniques, is two days with Ian McDermott:

  • The powerful Voting Model, and how to turn vision into action
  • The Gremlins model, bringing honesty and humour to the shadow side of people and teams
  • The GROW model, and how to move anyone forward
  • How to guard against unhelpful habituation
  • How to generate powerful questions

Part 2, Coaching, Neuroscience and NLP, is one day with Professor Patricia Riddell and Ian. The one thing all successful coaching approaches have in common is that they trigger changes in the brain, so it makes sense to know something about how this happens. The Coach Approach helps anyone understand their current position and how they'd like it to change, NLP gives you specific tools to make those changes happen, and neuroscience provides the scientific evidence base for why and how these tools actually work.

  • The changes that occur in the brain as we learn (or unlearn)
  • How coaching, NLP and neuroscience fit together to create a dynamic that is more than the sum of its parts
  • How to use timelines as part of a Coach Approach
  • Neuroplasticity, and how it is redefining what is possible for human beings at any stage and any age

Navigating the World of Executive Coaching

How to avoid the pitfalls and influence leaders · Three 90-minute sessions with Pamela Richarde
+

Coaching executives in an organisational environment is a complex process, requiring the coach to design alliances well and navigate the challenges of multiple relationships. These three webinars cover what an executive coach must be schooled in to create a productive, safe and ethical relationship, each highlighting the critical ICF competencies involved.

  • Creating a Foundation for Success: making the case for executive coaching, your role as an executive coach, creating effective coaching agreements, and self as an executive coach
  • On-Boarding and Contracting in Organisational Coaching: contracting the relationship, defining success measures, and confidentiality and reporting
  • Navigating Ethical Complexities: managing sticky situations, internal versus external coaches, abrasive leaders, and considering culture
Module 4

Integrating Coaching Presence and Purpose

How to maximise your ease and impact · Four days with Ian McDermott and Pamela Richarde
+

Major change happens at the level of identity, beliefs and values. However, many conventionally trained coaches find it challenging to operate at these levels. Nor are they alone: most organisations can only talk about 'winning hearts and minds'. Very few know how to actually do it. In this module we show you how to blend the wisdom of the different approaches you've learned so you can engage the hearts and minds of individuals, teams and even organisations. This is truly your integration module, and the precursor and prerequisite for official certification.

Some of the key areas of Module 4:

  • How to apply the Coach Approach at an identity level
  • Recognising the role of bias, yours and others', and addressing its impact on your coaching and results
  • Exploring personal and system cultures, and the influence the Coach Approach can have on these
  • Key distinctions between remedial and generative coaching
  • Legacy as a focus for the Coach Approach
  • Developing self-as-coach with a focus on reason, purpose, vision and mission
  • Ensuring you use the right approach at the right time
  • Reflecting on and appraising your skill development
  • Clarifying your pathway beyond this programme, including the key ICF topics, behavioural markers and next steps for ICF accreditation
Plus

Unique programme bonuses

The support that carries you through and beyond
+

  • In-between coaching: as well as substantial coaching experience during the training hours, you complete in-between coaching hours as both coach and client with your peers
  • Hard-copy Programme Manual for ongoing reference and learning. You'll still be picking it up in years to come!
