Time to Tell Yourself a New Story?

How to re-author the account you live by

We are always telling ourselves a story. Quietly, constantly, we narrate who we are and why our life has gone the way it has. And most of the time we don’t even notice we’re doing it at all.

That’s the catch. The story runs in the background and simply feels like the truth. But it isn’t the truth — it’s an account, one version among many. The same life could be told a dozen ways, and the version you’ve settled on quietly decides what you attempt, what you rule out, and who you take yourself to be.

A new year is a natural chapter break — a good moment to catch the story you’ve been living by, and ask whether it’s still the one you’d choose.

In Ian’s words: “You can’t stop narrating. But you can become the author, not just the narrator.”

At the start of a New Year this session is a chance to catch up with yourself – and the account you live by.

What we'll explore

  • The story you didn’t know you were telling — how to catch the running narrative that feels simply like ‘the truth’ about you
  • Story, not fact — why the same events can be told a dozen ways — and why it matters who’s doing the telling
  • The shape it takes — how a self-story quietly makes itself come true, and the cost of not noticing
  • Finding the sentence — a chance to surface the single line you most often tell yourself about who you are
  • Rewriting it truer — a fuller, more honest line, and how to find it
  • Living the new line — why a rewritten story only counts when you start to act from it — and how to begin

Most of us never stop to notice the story we tell about ourselves. It simply runs, and over time it starts to shape what we try and what we rule out.

This session is a chance to catch that story, find the line you tell yourself most often, and begin rewriting it into one that’s truer.

You can't stop narrating. But you can become the author, not just the narrator.
